The Last Fall Microsoft announced the launch of a new app that unified the hitherto separate Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Sticky Notes into a single app that simplifies the user experience. Now this new application “Microsoft Office” is available for iPhone.

An application to unite them all

The new application, the result of the fusion of Word, Excel and PowerPoint, maintains, according to Microsoft, all the functionalities of the independent apps and adds new functions of a phone. Achieve all this, in addition, reducing the size of this new app below what occupy the three separate applications. Microsoft describes the update in the following terms:

THE NEW OFFICE APPLICATION SIMPLIFIES THE WAY YOU WORK ON A PHONE BY COMBINING WORD, EXCEL AND POWERPOINT INTO A SINGLE APPLICATION AND ADDS MOBILE FEATURES SO YOU CAN DO MORE WITH A SINGLE APPLICATION. THIS APPLICATION MAINTAINS ALL THE FUNCTIONALITY OF EXISTING WORD, EXCEL AND POWERPOINT MOBILE APPLICATIONS, BUT REQUIRES MUCH LESS STORAGE ON THE PHONE THAN THE USE OF THREE SEPARATE APPLICATIONS.

The new app also includes Stick Notes and adds a new action panel with which we can perform the following:

  • Create PDFs with our camera, using photos on our device or from Office documents.
  • Sign the PDFs simply using your finger.
  • Scan QR codes to open files and links. Easily transfer files between our phone and computer or share them instantly with nearby mobile devices.

For now the app is only available for iPhone, although Microsoft has already announced that it will soon reach the iPad. The iPhone app can be used for free, even without logging in, but a subscription to Office 365 is required to unlock premium features. This subscription, with a price of about 7 euros per month, will be mandatory to use the app on iPad over 9.7 inches.
