Windows 10 Optimization

You have recently succumbed to the siren call (it must be said that Microsoft insists on switching to Windows 10) and installed the latest Microsoft operating system, Windows 10? Help, my computer is really very slow since switching to Windows 10! Since Microsoft wanted any computer to be compatible with Windows 10, it is possible that its computer was more efficient with its old Windows.

It is not necessary to improve the speed of your computer to buy new hardware (memory, hard disk …) or use optimization software (often counterproductive): there are some Windows configurations that must be checked first, it may be that these few tips are enough to greatly accelerate your computer.

How can you make your computer work better with Windows 10?

There are some small tips to optimize your Windows 10 and, therefore, increase the performance of your computer!

Migrating Windows 10 to an SSD hard drive

This is my best advice to improve Windows 10 and make your PC more powerful. The replacement of the traditional hard disk (mechanical hard disk called HDD) with a state-of-the-art SSD will greatly accelerate the use of the equipment in all its uses, including startup. In fact, SSDs are much more efficient thanks to much faster read and write times on SSDs.

Previously the performance of the PCs was limited by the slowness of traditional hard drives, this time it is already solved! An SSD is certainly more expensive than a hard drive, but the result is worth it. See our tutorial to transfer Windows 10 to SSD drives if you want to start, you will not be disappointed by the result.

Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows

Type performance in the Windows 10 search box (located to the right of the Start menu) and select the Set Windows Appearance and Performance (Control Panel) item.
Note: it is also accessible by clicking on the Start menu, then Settings and typing performance in the upper right corner of the search field in the control panel.

On the first tab, Visual Effects, make sure that the Visual Effects check box is not checked.

You can also allow Windows to manage this setting by selecting Adjust for best performance: Windows will manage the screen settings alone to make the computer more efficient.

Then, go to the Advanced tab and in the Virtual Memory section click on Edit

If not, select the Automatic management of swap files for drives check box, Windows will better manage the virtual memory of the computer and the computer should be a little faster than before.

Uninstall unnecessary programs

There are often programs on the computer that are not used (this is the case of programs pre-installed on the computer, such as trial or evaluation versions), as well as unwanted software (such as toolbars). So clean your software and uninstall these programs!

How to uninstall a program?

In Windows 10, you must go to the Start menu, then click on Settings and then on System> Applications and features. Then, simply select the program, click on Uninstall and follow the instructions on the screen.

If the program refuses to uninstall through this traditional route (as is the case with some malicious advertising programs), you will need to use third-party software. In this case, I advise you to use AdwCleaner which is a free tool that tracks adware, toolbars connected to the browser (toolbar) etc …

Cleaning the hard drive

Unnecessary files are usually present on the hard disk (installation files, system files, temporary files, log files, etc.), take up space on the hard disk and tend to slow down the operating system.

Windows has provided a utility that allows you to clean your hard drive and therefore speeds up Windows 10 a bit. To do this, type cleanup in the search bar (just to the right of the Start menu) and click Disk Cleanup.
