'A' Range - TRIDENT
Trident Studios were started by Norman and Barry Sheffield in 1967. We supplied them with two 'A' range consoles, which they used until they started making their own desks.
Norman and Barry Sheffield were going to start a studio in Queen Ann's Court, just off Wardour Street. They spent several days at the studio listening to one of our early demo tapes. The same number, over and over again. However, I could not get an order out of them. One evening, I couldn't stand the tension. I rang Norman. Later, I remembered being quite short with him. Understand my surprise when he gave us the order. This was for our “A Range” desks, with Output Logic. The only significance in the term “A Range” was that it was “better” than what we had produced before. The term “Output Logic” referred to the fact that I had started to use digital logic gates (7400 chips) to control relays for monitor selection. Although the installation went well, I never liked their studio. Designed by Sandy Brown, it used wooden strips in front of highly absorbent material.
